International sport a new avenue for Japan

Japan is one of the world’s fastest growing tourist destinations and the Japan National Tourism Organization has set its sights on sporting events in the lead up to 2020.
Japan is set to host the Rugby World Cup in 2019 and the Olympics in 2020, two of the world’s largest sporting events. They will have a major impact on the country’s tourism goals, with plans to attract 40 million visitors annually by 2020.
At the same time, JNTO is also promoting Japan’s off the beaten path attractions and has identified ‘passion points’ that will appeal to travellers like cuisine, tradition, nature, art and relaxation.
