Akaryn Hotel Group gets serious about sustainability

The akyra TAS Sukhumvit Bangkok opened in May, a stylish 50-room property close to Sukhumvit Road. It uses no single use plastics in the rooms or restaurants. Guests are given a stainless steel water bottle on arrival that can be refilled at the filtered water stations on each floor. Bathroom toiletries are housed in pottery containers and biodegradable bags are used in the bins. The hotel also offers branded reusable shopping bags that guests can take with them so they don’t have to use disposable bags at shops or markets.

The hotel group has plans to roll out a similar concept across all its properties in the Akaryn and Aleenta brands. It has pledged to become completely free of single use plastic by the year 2020.
