Mexico City the World Design Capital 2018
Friday 23 Mar 2018
For the first time a city in the Americas has been named the World Design Capital. Mexico City will promote design and creativity as engines of social and cultural change in an urban context. The World Design Organization recognised Mexico’s capital for “blending old and new in innovative health, communications and security programmes, a bike sharing programme, urban gardens, parks and playgrounds.”
The theme of the WDC 2018 program is Socially Responsible Design and will look at ways to solve the challenges of megacities around the world, such as public space, mobility and sustainability. The program is not just a recognition of the city’s successes in design, but also inspiration to make it a better place to live.
Journey Mexico, a new exhibitor for Luxperience 2018, offers bespoke tours focusing on the city’s art and architecture as well as special events related to WDC 2018.
